Dr. Tom Sherman

Affiliation: Democrat

About

Dr. Tom Sherman is the Democratic nominee for governor in New Hampshire. He has dedicated his career to public service – from working as an EMT, to serving patients for more than 30 years, to serving New Hampshire constituents in the House and Senate for the past decade. Dr. Sherman has crossed the aisle to help expand healthcare to 50,000 Granite Staters, lower prescription drug costs, protect our first responders and our drinking water from harmful chemicals, and pass Buy American provisions protecting New Hampshire’s steel fabricators. He worked to legalize therapeutic cannabis because he knows many of his patients with cancer found relief from it, and has been a longtime supporter of legalizing adult-use cannabis. As governor, he is committed to getting New Hampshire back on track and addressing the issues like the rising cost of housing and energy, protecting our public schools, and codifying the right to choose. About

I believe that many people in Jackson, Bartlett, Hart’s Location, Chatham, Sandwich, Albany and Hale’s Location are concerned about what is going on in both Washington and Concord.

Our federal and state governments are immersed in partisan politics, which impedes getting important legislation passed.

If elected to the NH State House, I pledge to reach across the aisle to work with my colleagues regardless of which party they represent in order to pass legislation that is critical to the people of Carroll County and the state.

About

Everyday in NH, our State Government and State Agencies promote our low cost alcohol, low cigarette tax, ease of sports book and unfettered access to assault weapons. Not to forget a laissez-faire approach to an intensive multi-billion dollar biopharma industry that has a pill for every issue, valid or not. So when it comes to legal adult use cannabis, stop the hypocrisy please.

Legalize Cannabis – For Personal Health
Legalize Cannabis – For Economic Health

Cannabis should be a freedom of choice. Smart, consensus legislation for a private industry solution is only way NH should more forward with cannabis. It’s something 91% of the US citizens and 75% of NH residents want.

When we have 13 House members vote in favor of secession in a state that has the 8th largest number of veterans; and when we have a Senate that votes to kill retirement aide for towns in state with the 8th oldest population; I would surmise that approving legal adult use cannabis would be the least of our problems.

I look forward to debating the legal cannabis topic in 2023, if the will of the people decides that I return to the House.

About

I am running to bring more balance to the state senate, which has helped enact legislation that I find harmful (including the so-called EFAs, the abortion ban contained in the budget, the gerrymandering of voting districts, etc). I have seen the libertarian extremists exercise control over our state, and I am very concerned about this trend. Although some of them have similar views to mine regarding cannabis, we are otherwise far apart.

About

Prohibition didn’t work in the 1930s and it doesn’t work now. New Hampshire is an island of prohibition in New England, and eventually that will change. But there are concerns about the effects of legalization on public health. Thanks to Bill’s legislation about cannabis use during pregnancy, posters and pamphlets with more information are now in alternative treatment centers. This year, he amended the legalization bill the House sent to the Senate to make sure this information would be available to consumers. Bill is supportive of cannabis legalization provided the associated public health concerns are addressed.

About

I am running for a fifth term in the House. My highest priority is criminal justice reform and all the issues it encompasses, such as ending the War on Drugs, reforming the prison system as well as sentencing, advocating for prisoners’ rights, and addressing the indirect consequences of the War on Drugs, such as overdose and health problems related to substance misuse. I am also focused on other areas of inequality, such as the lack of affordable housing and the dignity of homeless individuals.

About

I am running as a rational, non-partisan candidate who will research and examine issues individually to try to find common value and solutions that will benefit the people of New Hampshire. Excerpted from the “Issues” portion of my website:

“Throughout New England, states are relaxing cannabis laws, with positive results, like raking in tax dollars for the state coffers. Yet NH—which has long enjoyed a monopoly on the sale of alcohol (a far more dangerous drug)— maintains its ban on sales and possession of marijuana. Why?

The outdated war on drugs has caused more problems than it purports to solve. It’s time that we started treating those with addiction problems as human beings with medical issues, rather than criminals.

The Extremists in office seem to believe that government doesn’t work, and they are trying to prove it. I believe that government can work to help the citizens. I believe that public funds need to go to public schools. Gunstock is very beneficial to the County. NH is surrounded by states that are getting revenue from Marijuana. Driving through Vermont this month would impress you that they are further along in going solar.

About

I believe that the individual is the most important political subdivision and that a good government is one that respects the autonomy and self-determinism of all individuals. You should be free to choose how you conduct your life and your business, and the government should only step in if you are doing harm to others. I am a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and your right to defend yourself and your property. I support religious freedom and the strict separation of church and state. I support your right to privacy, both from big business and from the prying eyes of government. I believe you own your body and that you alone should decide what goes into it and what doesn’t. I believe that individuals know better what works for themselves and their families than the state ever could. I want to restore and protect your freedoms that big government has insidiously stripped away from you.

The first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln once stated “A house divided against itself cannot stand”; This sums up my reason for running for State Representative here in New Hampshire. Extremes at both ends of the political spectrum are pitting Americans against each other for political gain all while increasing their own power over the people they are here to serve. Politicians should be more focused on defending individual liberties which are being eroded, and working together for a prosperous and harmonious future instead of spreading discontent that renders the intuition of government dysfunctional and causes widespread panic each time the opposite party to comes into power. I am a conservative who believes the government should leave you alone if you are not hurting anyone, and therefore will support cannabis legalization.

About

I am running for State Representative in Derry because we need someone who believes in commonsense values and a nuanced approach; to make sure our government is working for all Granite Staters.

No Granite Stater in Derry should have to work two or three jobs just to make a living wage. I will support reasonable measures like increasing the minimum wage and expanding employment benefits.

I believe our democracy is strongest when more people participate in and benefit from our government. As a Representative, I will always support measures that ensure Granite Staters in Derry are able to participate in our democracy and hold our elected officials accountable.

As a father, I will always support policies that work for families in Derry, like paid family and medical leave, to ensure Granite Staters never have to choose between caring for a newborn, a sick loved one or receiving a paycheck and benefits.

Public education and Women’s right to self determination are under attack in this country and this state. We need ardent defenders of ALL our Human rights in Concord to prevent any further erosion of our rights as humans and citizens!

About

I am a progressive Democratic candidate with a passion for ensuring a healthy future for generations to come. New Hampshire needs to invest in renewable energy sources, guarantee access to abortion, fully fund public education, and legalize cannabis. Every state that borders NH has already legalized or has plans underway to legalize recreational cannabis. The state of New Hampshire is doing a disservice to itself by missing out on this booming agricultural industry as well as the sales and excise tax on the products.

About

My name is Michael Harrington and I am a State Rep representing Strafford and New Durham and I am the Assistant Majority Leader of the NH House. I am running for re-election in the new district made up of Barrington, Middleton, New Durham and Strafford. If re-elected it will be my 6th term in the house.

I have voted in favor legalizing cannabis over and over again and will continue to do so. My first vote in favor of this was in the early 2000’s when the idea was not as popular as it is today. Now with all the states around us having legalized cannabis it is just plain dumb for NH not to do so as well.

Not much more to say on this, legalize cannabis.

I have no web site but can be reached at this above email address: harringt@metrocast.net or 603-942-8691. My campaign slogan is “More government is not the solution to all problems, sometimes it is the cause.”

I am running for office to fix the destructive actions taken by the all republican county delegation in central NH. I am against the parental bill of rights, the banning of cirriculum in public schools and the educational freedom of choice legislation. We are years behind other New England states in realizing the benefits of legalized cannabis. We could use funds from cannabis sales to level the playing field in our school funding issue.

About

I am running because I strongly disagree with the extremist agenda being touted (pushed through) by the Free State minority and their Republican allies. They want to cripple public schools — I support robust public education. They want to enfeeble environmental regulations and promote fossil fuel use — I support environmental protection of our aquifers and forests as well as clean, renewable, affordable energy. They defend governmental interference in women’s health — I support a woman’s right to choose. For so many critical issues — free and fair elections, public health, gun safety, etc. — their policies represent a radical viewpoint that is NOT what I believe most of the citizens of NH want. And, of course, I support common-sense cannabis legalization, something I believe is long overdue.

About

I’m running for U.S. Senate as a Libertarian because I believe in the principles of self-ownership and voluntary interaction.

Libertarians believe that the War on Drugs is ineffective, unfair, and immoral. We advocate ending it.

Libertarians believe that it is immoral for the government to dictate which substances a person is permitted to consume, whether it is alcohol, tobacco, herbal remedies, saturated fat, marijuana, etc. These decisions belong to individual people, not the government.

The War on Drugs has imprisoned thousands of non-violent people. This is unfair to these people and also uses up resources that would be better spent prosecuting and imprisoning people who are violent. It also creates a black market for drugs, which further encourages violence.

Finally, The War on Drugs is largely responsible for the militarization of police forces in America. It has pitted police against citizens and this is unfair to both. Police need to be able to focus on protecting the American public from violent offenders and fraud.

Because of all of these things, Libertarians advocate ending the War on Drugs.

I am running to give New Hampshire voters a compassionate Libertarian option for Governor.

Pro-Choice on everything. I believe that people should be free to make choices for their own lives (and bodies) without the interference of government. I support harm reduction and restorative justice vs. the punitive system we currently have. Legalizing recreational cannabis for all adults would be an important step in harm reduction.

I believe, strongly, it is time we legalize cannabis and end our island of prohibition here in New England.

About

I am a first-generation Latine-American running for state representative in Hillsborough County 20, better known as Manchester Ward 9. The core focus and message of my campaign is that every human being should have the right to live their lives how they want, and without the worry of having their rights or necessities stripped away. The far-right onslaught on trans rights, gay marriage, abortion, racial equity, public education, and so much more are tearing apart any progress this country has made. I truly believe every human being has the right to do what they want with their own bodies, and in their own lives, as long as they are not harming others. I believe we also have a right to housing, healthcare, and other human needs, and the government should be stepping up to meet those needs for every single person. New Hampshire is so behind the ball on cannabis legalization, and it’s frankly embarrassing. Not only is recreational cannabis still illegal in NH, but getting a medical card is extremely difficult and limited to a select few patients. In 2022, there is simply no excuse to not have legal and easily available cannabis in New Hampshire.

About

I’m running because I am passionate about serving my community and protecting the rights of Granite Staters. One of the rights I am most passionate about is the right to consume recreational adult-use cannabis. 74% of Granite Staters agree that adult-use cannabis should be legal in the state of New Hampshire. In spite of this broad public support, our current state legislators have failed to deliver on legalization. Research shows that the legalization of adult-use cannabis could raise over $44 million in revenue for our state. These revenues can be used to reduce our property tax burden. The economic and fiscal benefits of legalization are clear. Nevertheless, New Hampshire remains an “island” in the region—we are the only state in New England without legal cannabis. All this money WE could be making is escaping across our borders to OTHER neighboring states. It does not have to be this way. If elected, I will introduce a responsible, common sense legalization bill that will correct this absurd irregularity. Through legalization, we will generate millions in revenue for our state and simultaneously bolster personal freedoms.

About

I am primary running to protect several things that are currently under attack in NH: public schools, personal rights, and fiscal responsibility. As a moderate, and healthcare provider to the homeless and less resourced, I am fully aware of the benefits from cannabis use, medicinally, but also recreationally, as I sought to help patients struggling with sobriety over harder drugs, return to place of emotional and physical stability. They often used it until they acquired better coping skills, and most certainly for chronic osteoarthritic pain and sleep. I did not write prescriptions because I worked at a Federally Subsidized non-profit clinic, and as such was beholden to federal laws.

One issue: there should be limits as to what age may use cannabis, which I feel should be equal to alcohol at 21 years old. It is a drug that can impair use of motor vehicles, heavy machinery, decision-making, etc, and as such requires a fully developed brain, which does not occur until ages 21-25, as research shows. I would not provide younger adults with anything that could potentially impair their development and create addictive, maladaptive behaviors where natural coping skills can be developed.in their place. Once an adult, however, Granite Staters should be permitted to make a choice for a far less harmful drug than alcohol, though not without its issues, as with any controlled substance. It would also bear noting that the income derived from the cannabis industry within our own state, if kept to small business and local growers, might provide a substantial source of revenue, and develop an untapped economy when we most need those options. I would also do what I could to bar big agribusiness from entering into the discussion, as has been done in other states, in lieu of supporting local economy.

I am not a politician. I am a lifelong resident of NH. I am a free thinking moderate Republican.

I am running for office because I am deeply saddened by the current state of affairs in my Community.

Our current systems regarding homeless, crime, education and our economy are broken. The streets of my city have been overrun with criminals who have been released on PR bail and continue to offend over and over. Our parks are no longer a safe place for our children. I am tired of standing by and watching as my elderly parents, as well as my grown children are financially drowning due to out of control inflation. I am afraid that middle class people like me are not going to be able to afford our electric bills or to heat our homes this winter.

New Hampshire desperately needs change. I want to be the voice of change for middle of the road, free thinking middle class citizens.
